Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve tops one million sales faster than any series entry
Bandai Namco says Ace Combat 8 is the fastest-selling game in the 30-year series, while it works on fixes for PC crashes, flight stick support and online matchmaking.
Bandai Namco announced on 9 October that Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has sold more than one million copies, reaching the mark faster than any previous game in the franchise's 30-year history. The publisher also says the game ranks second in the series on review aggregate sites, just behind Ace Combat 4: Shattered Skies from 2001.
The flight combat game launched on 2 October, with Deluxe Edition owners getting a three-day head start from 29 September. On Steam it sells for $69.99, and SteamDB's weekly chart listed it as the global top seller on Steam for 29 September to 6 October.
Problems on PC
The launch has not been smooth for every player. Bandai Namco has acknowledged several issues:
- Crashes on the Steam version. The team is collecting reports and recommends the suggested graphics driver, at least 16 GB of free SSD space and enabled virtual memory.
- Missing flight stick configuration options that were available in Ace Combat 7. The studio says it is working on improvements.
- The Ace Combat Zero pre-order bonus can currently only be played through Ace Combat 8 because of licensing limits; a standalone Steam release is being evaluated.
- Online matchmaking that fails in some setups. The developer recommends Windows 11 and an SSD installation.
An update with bug fixes and gameplay adjustments is in preparation, with timing still to be announced. Turkish is not among the game's supported languages on Steam.
