The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is out now as a free upgrade for owners
CD Projekt Red's remaster adds path tracing on PC, a reworked skill tree and gear reforging, and now gives every owner both expansions at no extra cost.
CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered on 29 September. Where supported, it replaces the existing version of the game and is free for anyone who owns The Witcher 3 on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. The Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions are now included for every owner, even those who only bought the base game. New buyers pay $49.99 on Steam.
What changes on PC
- Path tracing, which is available only on PC.
- Native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading, an improved shading model and updated tone mapping.
- Ground Truth Ambient Occlusion, ray-traced local shadows and reworked bloom and reflections.
- Textures and models updated using assets from The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project.
Gameplay
The skill system is now a tree in which each skill has three ranks, so existing skill points are reset. Master craftsmen Yoana and Hattori can reforge equipment to change its look without affecting its stats. Geralt gets new finishers and animations, movement and controls for Geralt and Roach have been improved, and the combat behaviour of many regular monsters has been polished. Mods are now supported across platforms, with mod.io on consoles.
The remaster, made with Yigsoft, also launched as a native Nintendo Switch 2 version and on Battle.net. The Turkish interface and subtitles remain available on Steam. A new paid expansion, Songs of the Past, is planned for 2027.
