Activision asked to remove Itaewon footage from Modern Warfare 4
Bereaved families and civic groups in South Korea have asked Activision to remove real footage of the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's opening.
According to Eurogamer's report on October 29, 2026, bereaved families and civic groups in South Korea have asked Activision to remove real footage of the 2022 Itaewon crowd crush from the opening of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Eurogamer reports that the footage appears in the opening sequence as part of a fictional news report on civilian casualties in a North Korean invasion of South Korea. Activision told Eurogamer in a statement that the opening cinematic uses real news coverage to set up the game's fictional narrative and is not meant to reference or make light of the Itaewon disaster. According to IGN's report on October 30, 2026, citing the BBC, the families said they were appalled the footage was used and demanded that Activision pull it.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 does not list Turkish among its Steam languages, and PlayAndPatch currently has no Turkish translation or trainer for the game.
