Nexus Mods has introduced new rules requiring mod authors to disclose any use of generative AI in their mods.
According to Eurogamer's report on November 4, 2026, Nexus Mods has published new rules requiring mod authors to declare any use of generative AI in their mods.
According to Eurogamer's report, authors must state how AI was used, and the site now offers a filter for visitors to hide AI-related mods. AI-made mods are still allowed if they satisfy the site's rules on permissions, transparency, presentation and conduct.
According to Eurogamer's report, existing mods must meet the new rules within 60 days. The site is preparing permission options for AI use and training and for derivative mods, and it will not train AI on or license mods itself. The site's co-owner Foledinho said a full ban would only push AI use underground, and that moderation standards with penalties are being introduced.
